The simplest solutions for a green roof are our ready-to-use Sedum roof cassettes and the colorful Delosperma Cooperi.
For more variation, a green roof can also be created using our other perennial plant mats.
Our wide range of plant mats makes it possible to add more diversity to roof plantings, which enhances biodiversity.
However, a green roof with different plant mats than Sedum requires a slightly different approach.
Not every roof can be transformed into a green roof.
Among the roofs suitable for Sedum, some are also appropriate for other Covergreen plant mats.
Suitability depends on several factors.
One of the first and most important criteria is the load-bearing capacity of the roof structure.
An extensive standard Sedum roof is lighter than an intensive green roof, which is required for most of our perennial plant mats.
The roof’s orientation and slope also play a crucial role in determining the success of the green roof.
Covergreen plant mats (excluding Covergreen Sedum) should be installed on a structure consisting of a drainage mat and at least 8 cm of substrate.
This setup is called an intensive green roof.
An extensive green roof, on the other hand, has a thinner, lighter structure.

Because of the limited substrate layer, water and nutrients always require more attention than in conventional ground planting.
