Vinca minor ‘Alba’

English name: lesser periwinkle

Vinca minor ‘Alba’, one of many varieties of Vinca minor, is a fully hardy ground cover plant with small, white flowers and a flowering period from March to July.

Vinca Minor ‘Alba’ prefers a position that’s partial shading and partial sunny. It can also be used for transition to a rock garden. The soil should contain sufficient humus but should not be too wet. The plant can also thrive in flower boxes. It survives temperatures down to -30°C.

 

Vinca Minor ‘Alba’ can be combined nicely with for example narcissus or crocus. It does not require a lot of care. On the contrary, Vinca Minor ‘Alba’ grow so quickly that it has to be contained; this can be accomplished by cutting sods, root division and even by mowing.

 

Vinca Minor ‘Alba’ originates from the Mediterranean area, but now it can be found in the wild in the United Kingdom as well. In the Netherlands, this wild variety is protected. Vinca Minor ‘Alba’ hardly suffers from plant diseases, if at all.
